5 Step Guide to filing two-wheeler insurance claim- 

Here’s a guide to filing a two-wheeler insurance claim in five simple steps. As motorcycle insurance is a General Insurance, the claim process is more or less similar to Auto Insurance. 

File an FIR:

In the case of third party damage or loss due to an accident or theft, an FIR should be filed with the local police, especially when there is the potential legal implication. A copy of the FIR complaint must be handy for document proof for the claim to process. 

Inform the Insurance Provider:

Claims can be made online or through offline methods. For two-wheeler insurance claim online, visit the insuring company’s official website and fill in the required details under the claims option. Update soft copies of all relevant documents and let the request process once the documents are validated. As for the offline method, visit the nearest claims centre/ insurance office to register. The earlier claim requests are made the smoother settling will become.

Submit the required information:

All necessary information such as documents, registration number, names and contact details as well as location and accident details etc. are important. Registration number of the vehicles involved is crucial as well as witness count and their contact details. Inform the RTO:

However, in case the bike isn’t recovered and the bike was on EMI or bought with a loan then the insurance company will reimburse the amount owed to the loan provider from the sum assured. The leftover amount will be reimbursed to the policyholder.

  2. The Registration Certificate of the two-wheeler
  3. Driving License and other identifying documents
  4. In case of theft, papers from RTO 
  5. Validated copy of FIR complaint and No-Trace Application

Things to keep in mind before filing a two-wheeler insurance claim-

  1. In an accident scenario, do not move your vehicle away from the accident spot until proper complaints are filed. Make sure not to send the bike for repair either before the approval from the insurance company. 
  2. All relevant facts and information should be revealed. In the worst-case scenario, lying or hiding facts will either render your policy invalid or the claim request might get rejected due to lack of correct information. 
  3. Though settling with third-party at the accident scene is commonly advised, it is better not to settle for an offer made by the third-party without informing the police and consulting with the insurance company. This will ensure that no legal aspect comes to light later that could have been avoided.
