But there’s a way if you have lost the original documents of your bike insurance — You can apply for the duplicate bike insurance documents. To do the same, you will need to follow a few steps shown below.

Step 1: File a First Information Report (FIR)

The first step after losing your bike insurance documents is to file an FIR at the nearest police station. You can file the FIR online too. Register your complaint (offline or online) with the declaration that your bike insurance document has been stolen or lost. While filing the FIR, don’t forget to mention your policy number, type of insurance, etc. Get a copy of the FIR as you will be unable to secure duplicate bike insurance documents from the insurer without the same.

Step 2: Inform Your Bike Insurance Company

The next step would be to intimate your bike insurance company about the loss or theft of the documents. For this, you would need to send a self-attested copy of the FIR to your respective insurance company with a request to issue a duplicate bike insurance policy.

Step 3: Publish an Advertisement in the Newspaper

If you have lost your bike insurance documents, it is mandatory to publish an advertisement in the local newspaper. This ad will announce the loss of your bike insurance documents where you will also mention your name and contact number so that an individual may get in touch with you on finding the lost documents. You will need to bear the cost of publishing this advertisement from your pocket. After publishing the ad, you will need to submit a copy of the published ad to the respective insurance company.

Do remember to specify the following information in the advertisement.

  1. Name of the Policyholder
  2. Name of the respective Insurance Company
  3. Policy number and issuance date
  4. Registration number of two-wheeler
