Flexible Sum Insured Options

As mentioned in the key features, the sum insured ranges from INR 1,00,00 to 3,00,000. Policyholders can choose according to their needs.

Let’s Talk About the Coverage Features

With this plan, policyholders will get coverage against the following expenses.

  1. Room, boarding and nursing expenses (as provided by a nursing home or hospital) up to 1% of the sum insured per day (a maximum of INR 3,000 per day) or the actual amount, whichever is lower.
  2. Nursing care, Resident Medical Offers (RMO) charges, IV Fluids, Blood Transfusion or Injection
  3. Intensive Care Unit (ICU) charges up to 2% of the sum insured per day or actual amount (whichever is lower)
  4. Operation theatre charges, blood, oxygen, radiotherapy, cost of artificial limbs, cost of prosthetic devices, dialysis, medicines, surgical appliances, etc.
  5. In-patient hospitalization expenses incurred on organ donor if an insured person needs to undergo organ transplant surgery (Excluding the cost of organ)

Policyholders will get coverage against the expenses incurred on the following specified illnesses.

  1. Cataract, Hernia Hysterectomy – Actual expenses or 25% of the sum insured (whichever is lower)
  2. Other Major Surgeries – Actual Expenses or 70% of the sum insured (whichever is lower)

Note: Major surgeries include cardiac surgeries, brain tumor surgeries, pacemaker implantation (for sick sinus syndrome), cancer surgeries, hip, knee or joint replacement surgery or organ transplant.

Domiciliary Hospitalization Cover

This policy will cover the expenses incurred on domiciliary hospitalization. The period of hospitalization should last at least three consecutive days.

However, it will not cover pre & post-hospitalization expenses and treatment for any of the following diseases.

  1. Asthma
  2. Bronchitis
  3. Chronic Nephritis and Nephritic Syndrome
  4. Diarrhea and all types of Dysenteries including Gastroenteritis
  5. Diabetes Mellitus and Insipidus
  6. Epilepsy
  7. Hypertension
  8. Influenza, Cough and Cold
  9. All Psychiatric or Psychosomatic Disorders
  10. Pyrexia of Unknown Origin for less than 10 days
  11. Tonsillitis and Upper Respiratory Tract infection including Laryngitis and Pharyngitis
  12. Arthritis, Gout and Rheumatism

Ayurvedic Treatment Cover

The policy will cover hospitalization expenses for the treatment in a government hospital or any institute (authorized by the government and/or by the Quality Council of India or the National Accreditation Board on Health).

Family Discount on Premiums

This Senior Citizen Plan also offers a 5% discount on the total premium amount if any of the following family members is covered under the plan with the insured member.

  1. Spouse
  2. Dependent Children (Legitimate or Legally Adopted Children)
  3. Dependent Parents

United India Insurance Senior Citizen Plan Eligibility Criteria

  1. Minimum Age at Entry – 61 years
  2. Maximum Age at Entry – 80 years
  3. The individual should be taking a health insurance policy for the first time in his/her life.

Free Look Period

Policyholders will get a free look period of 15 days from the date of receipt of the policy. Within this period, they can review the terms and conditions of the policy and return it on being unsatisfied.

If an insured person has not made any claim during the free look period, the insurer will refund the premium paid minus any expenses incurred by him/her on medical examination and stamp duty charges.

What Does This Policy Not Cover?

The plan will not provide coverage in the following situations.

  1. Injury or disease directly or indirectly caused by war, invasion, the act of foreign enemy or warlike operations
  2. Circumcision unless advised by a doctor
  3. Expenses incurred on spectacles, contact lenses and hearing aids
  4. Charges on diagnostic tests like X-ray or lab examinations
  5. Expenses on vitamins and tonics unless prescribed by attending physician
  6. Injury directly or indirectly caused by nuclear weapons or materials
  7. Genetic disorders
  8. Stem cell implantation or surgery
  9. Change of treatment from one system of medicine to another
  10. Treatment due to pregnancy, childbirth, miscarriage, abortion or complications
  11. Age-related macular degeneration treatment
  12. Non-medical expenses (Charges on telephone, diet, private nursing, tissue paper, sanitary pads, etc.)
  13. Any kind of service charges, surcharges, luxury tax, etc.
