Star Cancer Care Plan is the first-ever unique pilot product designed especially for individuals fighting against cancer and are at risk of recurrence, metastasis, or second cancer (unrelated to first cancer). Here, a pilot product means that it is launched on a test basis for 5 years. Care Freedom Plan, in contrast, can be a right fit for individuals affected with diabetes, high blood pressure, and high body mass index (BMI).
So, this is the basic comparison between these two plans. To know in detail, we will be comparing them on several factors such as the sum assured, coverage period, additional features, premium amount, etc.
Both the Star Cancer Care plan and Care Freedom plan provide the freedom to choose from different plan options. Under the plan from Star Health, there are three sections — Lump Sum Benefit, Indemnity Cover for Surgical & Interventional Therapy, and Indemnity Cover for Non-Surgical & Non-Interventional Therapy. The overall sum insured will be distributed into these three sections.
You can choose the sum insured between two options — INR 3 lakh and INR 5 lakh. To know more, you can check the below table!
Sections | Sum Insured Option of INR 3,00,000 | Sum Insured Option of INR 5,00,000 |
---|---|---|

Indemnity Cover - Non-Surgical & Non-Interventional Therapy | INR 50,000 | INR 1,00,000 |
On the other hand, with the Care Freedom plan, individuals can choose between two plan options — Plan 1 and Plan 2. The sum insured option for Plan 1 can be either INR 3 lakh or INR 5 lakh, while for Plan 2, it can be either INR 7 lakh or INR 10 lakh.
Despite being a pilot product ( 5-year test basis), the policy term of Star Cancer Care can last for a year. However, you can renew the policy every year. On the other hand, you can choose the policy term from – 1 year, 2 years and 3 years under the Care Freedom Plan.
In the case of the Star Cancer Care Plan, the minimum premium amount depends on the age, the sum insured amount, and on two conditions (before a claim under and post-claim under section 1). Before a claim, the minimum premium amount will be INR 17,400 per year for individuals of 5 months to 29 years old with a sum insured of INR 3 lakh. For the post-claim, the minimum premium will be INR 12,250 per year.
